Part of the Wave x Meta live show series. The performer plays from the Wave studio in a motion-captured avatar while the stage, lighting and camera looks run in real time around them.

Many of our shows gave the performer an on-stage trigger, usually a big red button, that fired a large visual change of their choosing. Some hit it constantly. Others saved it for the right moment.

Around this show we'd been experimenting with skeleton scaling, so just for fun we put big head mode on the trigger during rehearsal. We weren't sure they'd go for it, since the music is moody and giant heads are goofy. They loved it. It stayed in the live show and the fans got a huge kick out of it. It also put the facial capture front and center, so the audience could see how expressive the avatars really were.

I met with Slenderbodies before production to get a read on their style and vibe, and gathered what they already had: current tour looks, album art and footage of live sets. That reference fed straight into the run of show.

From there I oversaw the build. I owned the show tools and the construction of each scene, approved the visuals at every review, tracked the tasks and made the call on when each one was done.

This was one of the shows where instrument tracking went live in front of an audience. My part was setting it up and testing it on the art side as it was built.

Every show also fed the platform. As the library of tools and content grew, I wrote the specs and direction for new show features, covering how they ran, how they looked and how the audience played with them, then oversaw implementation.
